Thanks for sharing the Andrea Quotes, Joelle. There is a quote by her that I have heard a few times that is very similar to what Angela Davis was saying, "The genius of any slave system is found in the dynamics which isolate slaves from each other, obscure the reality of a common condition, and make united rebellion against the oppressor inconceivable." (Andrea Dworkin) The White Supremacist Capitalist Patriarchy we have been learning about is a genius slave system that keeps groups of people separated especially women and makes it so that we are always conforming instead of making change.
I've learned that change is a process and is going to be a process. Nothing will happen over night, but all the contributions that have been made are important. Being actively aware, constantly and starting conversations are two major things I do in my life to bring about cultural transformation. I am very advantaged by certain patriarchal oppressions like racism and my education. I don't see any other option but to make this world a better place with every step I take. And having hope is important because it is hard to accept the truths of this world and it is painful to be aware to the reality of what Leslie Feinberg was talking about, but like she quoted: "Let us be realistic let us do the impossible." We have to work together and we have to be strong for social change because now is a time for people to rise up; we have to ALL be part of this revolution.
I really like how you say we ALL need to be part of this revolution. We all can take small steps to be better people and face against these many types of oppression, but if we work together much change can be made.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that we all need to work together to fight against all the inequalities that exist in the world. I really liked what you said though about having hope. Without hope it would be so easy for everyone to just give up because, like you said, it is paintful to be aware of reality. But, hope and determination and a willingness to fight for what we believe in and for what is good for the whole of society will certainly help in ending the system of discrimination that we have in our world today.
ReplyDeleteI agree that change is a process. It is important that we recognize that change is a process and takes the efforts of all parties involved, I liked how you put in saying that it is a revolution we all have to be a part of.
ReplyDeleteSo what is our next step from here, if we all are going to be part of this revolution? What can do as a class? How can we start this process?? Talking to each other over these blogs is a start and certainly taking this class is helpful. The next question I am asking is, what can we do to educate our peers? and how do we raise awareness other than ours? Its nice to know all about feminism and have this class because it gives me hope that we will change the systems that uphold the painful reality we live in
